Meat the Future

It is time to discuss the future of meat. With the global population likely to reach nine billion people by 2050, the continued levels of production and consumption of meat as they are now are unsustainable. Global warming, energy consumption, animal diseases, and projected global food shortages are just a few of the problems related to food that we are to face in the future. And then we have not even started about the much-discussed animal-cruelty of factory farming. Will we soon be eating only rice, beans, and seaweed burgers? Or will we be eating insects? This exhibition was designed as a speculative cultured meat restaurant that was divided into four sections which each explored an issue in which cultured meat can play a role. Continue reading...

Out of the Lab

Out of the Lab exhibited 21 projects that are the result of the Cube in-residence programme. The exhibition presented concepts, ideas, and prototypes that are based on various social issues ranging from food waste to care for people with dementia. Four starting businesses also exhibited which have made the step into the public domain with the Brightlands Innovation Factory. This cooperation partner of Cube helps start-ups to run a successful business and therefore offers opportunities for a continuation of the Cube in-residence programme. Showroom Limburg 2017

Featuring 50 designs, Showroom Limburg presented a current impression of the creative sector in Limburg and showed how diverse, functional, beautiful, contrasting, exciting, pleasant, and sustainable design can be. The exhibition featured projects from Dutch and foreign companies and designers and of starting designers. This last category was asked to send in their own designs from which design journalist Jeroen Junte selected thirteen projects. According to Jeroen, ‘There is no such thing as Limburg design, as the designers are inspired by contemporary developments and trends in design in the Netherlands and abroad.’ The 2017 edition of this exhibition ran from 16 February 2017 to 7 May 2017.
